Calgary UX Survey 2020
It is important to clarify that this survey was collected mid-February. By the time of this analysis, we are facing different circumstances. The Calgary UX leadership team supports the guidelines to keep our community healthy. Until further notice, all our activities and events will be online via our slack channel and/or video conference.
Our community
As the name suggests, the vast majority of the members of our community live and work in Calgary.
70% of our community are Meet-up members, but only half of them have attended an event. The best ways to increase event participation are effective communication of events, easy-to-access locations and covering interesting topics.
We share many members with other Meet-up groups, like Pixel and Pints, Chick Geek and Product Calgary.
Events
UX conferences, hand-on workshops, long format presentations, networking events, and rapid-fire talks are the most popular event formats. And most attractive topics relate to product design, discovery, strategy, and emerging technologies. Social interaction is important, most of the community prefer to meet in person but want the option to join remotely.
Professional experience
We have a wide range of areas of expertise, half of our members are UX Designers, Product Designer, and UX Researchers. The other half is distributed in Graphic, Visual, UI Designers, Software Developer, Product Manager or Product Owner and student or interns.
There is also a very even distribution in professional experience. Our largest professional group (20%), have 3-5 years of experience, while one-third of the community has reached Seniority. This distribution implies great mentorship potential.
Work life
When it comes to the work environment, In-house design (in medium and large corporations) are the most frequent workplaces, followed by client services companies, like agencies, studios or consultancies. Only one out of ten members work in a start-up.
Our largest age segment is 25-34 years, at 37%, and the 35-44 years group represents another 30%.
