The history of Calgary UX

How it all started

The Calgary UX community began as a humble book club in November 2011, where a handful of passionate individuals gathered to explore the depths of user experience design through the pages of books.

What started as a modest gathering soon became a thriving community of like-minded designers, researchers, and enthusiasts. This community has grown stronger through its shared love for learning and improving user experiences, fostering collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange.

Together, they have transformed their initial discussions into a vibrant hub where UX professionals come together to share insights, tackle challenges, and shape the future of design, all while nurturing the spirit of curiosity that brought them together in the first place.

Where is it going

We invite you to join us on this transformative journey. Come with us as we make Calgary the epicentre of inspiration and dialogue, sparking new energy for interaction design.

Where is it going

In November 2021, the community celebrated more than a decade since its formation. We want to honour the past and create a documentary about the community’s origins. Marissa Stambene interviewed past community organizers to recount their story, get their perspective about the present and inspire Calgary UX’s future.
