Volunteer

Volunteers are an important part of our team and help us in many ways during in-person and online events.  You can also give us a hand as a mentor, social media coordinator, or logistics.

Volunteers

Calgary UX is a non-profit community. We all are volunteers in one way or another.

It is up to us to live the following values:

  • Design is a verb, we are action-driven.
  • Everyone is welcome to be part of the community and its activities. No experience is required.
  • It is the responsibility of the community to build a prosperous design practice in the city.  We are building for us and for the next generations.
  • We promote open, caring and focused collaboration on value-driven activities.
  • Bring a brick, not a cathedral.  If you can only commit 5 minutes, let’s find the way to make it the best 5 minutes ever!

Design challenge dynamics

Each team will have no more than 5 members, including the team coordinator.  There might be one or more design mentors.  Stakeholders and design ambassadors need to be actively involved in the dynamics.

The design challenge duration is six weeks.  Design sprints last one week, a time and day are assigned for review, planning and feedback.

Design challenge workflow.

  1. Create safe spaces
  2. Frame the conversation around an important question
  3. Identify assets and skills
  4. Link and leverage assets to identify new opportunities
  5. Define areas to work on based on current scope and capacity
  6. Define the key performance indicators
  7. Start with low impact and low-risk task
  8. Draft a short-term action plan
  9. Set a time to review, learn and adjust
  10. Reinforce good habits and best practices

Note:  These steps are parallel to the design workflow, they are meant to optimize collaboration.
